Batman, The (Green Light) [Last Updated: 02/11/04]
Warner Bros. Animation will produce The Batman, a new animated series based on the DC Comics character, for Kids WB and Cartoon Network, the studio formally announced today along with some images.

The series, which will feature a continuity unrelated to the classic Batman: The Animated Series, will be about a young Batman in the third year of his crime-fighting career as he struggles to establish himself as the protector of Gotham City while balancing his crime-fighting role with his public persona as billionaire bachelor Bruce Wayne. Such classic Rogue's Gallery villains as the Joker (Michael Richardson), the Penguin (Tom Kenny), Catwoman (Gina Gershon), Mr. Freeze, the Riddler and the Man-Bat will appear in stories that detail Batman's first encounters with them.

Toonzone reports that Warner Bros.

Such classic Rogue's Gallery villains as the Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, the Riddler and the Man-Bat will appear in stories that detail Batman's first encounters with them.

Batman himself, who will be in his mid-twenties, will live beneath elevated train tracks and within a 150-year-old drainage system, battling adversaries with experimental Bat-gadgets and amped-up Batmobiles. His arsenal of equipment will all be operated and linked by an advanced remote-controlled invention he dubs the "Bat-Wave."

The series' theme song will be performed by U2 member The Edge.

Zap2It.com reports that Rino Romano will voice Bruce Wayne, Kevin Michael Richardson will play the Joker, Gina Gershon will voice Catwoman, Tom Kenny will play the Penguin, Alastair Duncan will play Alfred, Ming Na will play Detective Ellen Yin, and Steve Harris will play Clayface/Evan Bennett, while Variety confirms that Adam West will appear as the Mayor.

"To me, this is a dream project. Batman is the ultimate action-adventure property, and I've been a fan all of my life," says Sam Register, senior vice president of original animation at Cartoon Network. "The characters will remain true to their heritage, but we're going to deliver an action-adventure show that will feel so fresh and stylish that today's kids will love it as much as we all did growing up. I think this new Batman animated series will be a show that kids and their parents will watch together."

[an error occurred while processing this directive]With both a Spider-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles CGI TV series in the works, this is not surprising. Superhero Hype! reports that a new animated Batman series is on the way,

I have some insider information on Warner Brother's next strike in the Batman series. Apparently, the team that works on Batman will be starting another animated feature to be released in mid-2003. Not much info has been unveiled, but Batman and the Joker will be definitely characters, like normal.

From different co-workers I have heard different stories. One includes the origin of Batman and basically a more updated version of the live-action 'Batman' movie of the eighties. However I have also heard it will focus around a sort of 'No Man's Land' story, telling of chaos in Gotham City after a major earthquake. Despite which one is used, one thing is for certain: the characters will be most likely in 3D.

Now some might worry about this, but it only means that the characters will look like in 'The Batman-Superman Adventures', but 3D. Possible chance of a TV Show may also follow. Let's see what happens and I'll keep in touch.

I'm not so sure if this CGI effort will take any pains to retell the story, since Batman: Year One will be doing just that, and they don't want to cross any wrong wires. "It's a very long-term business we're developing now. ... We're devoting more resources toward the early development of these properties and it involves every part of our company," says Warner Bros. chairman Barry Meyer.

The studio plans to expand its franchise business in hopes of making alot of lasting franchises. They also announced plans for additional Superman and Batman films, Looney Tunes cartoons and new properties including Wonder Woman and Catwoman. [an error occurred while processing this directive]Toon Zone reports that according to Paul Dini from the WizardWorld convention, some of the Batman scripts he has sent in have been greenlighted! While the specifics of these scripts aren't known 100%, an inside source claims that some of these animated movies will be team ups with heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, Plastic Man, and Green Arrow (Kevin Smith's?). Another inside close claims that one of these scripts will try to tie up any loose ends from The New Batman Adventures.

When asked about the status of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker Unedited at Friday's Wizard World Convention in Chicago, Paul Dini told audiences that it was verylikely that Warner Home Video will release ROTJ unedited, though no specific date has been announced. It will be given a new cover so that it can be toldapart from the "family friendly" version. Warner Home Video is also pursuing the possibility of releasing it exclusively through DC Direct, so it is only accessed by fans. Paul Dini told fans that he was certain ROTJ: Uncut is going to be released, and if not this year early next year.

Meanwhile Paul Dini and Alan Burnett completed the Batman Beyond live action script and handed it in to Warner Bros. Pictures. Production is currently "on hold", and Warners apparently is not pursuing further developement at the time. Any rumors on casting should be considered false, for no casting has even started.

WB is now concentrating more on the Bruce Wayne Batman and essentially let go of Batman Beyond (hence the delay of Unmasked). While Terry McGinnis's future is dark at best, Bruce's seems bright as ever! [an error occurred while processing this directive]
